Starting college is daunting on its own, but starting with a random roommate adds a whole new level of uncertainty. It's a major adjustment to live with a complete stranger. I quickly learned that one of my roommate's favorite past times was to play guitar, but he lacked a place to store it. 

He did not have a case, so he generally resorted to letting it sit in a pile of a laundry on the floor. As a way to potentially build some good faith, I offered to design and 3D print him a holder. After he accepted my offer, I spent the afternoon designing a holder in Fusion360 before sending the file to one of the 3D printers in Duke's Innovation Co-Lab. My roommate used my print to hang his guitar for the rest of the year.

In my view, this was a low stakes project that ended with a very rewarding outcome. Two years have passed since I made this guitar holder, and we are still roommates.
